Cherokee Campground

Cherokee Campground (Reference Map C3). You won’t find any waterside tent sites here, or any fantastic mountain views, but this is an economical, clean, and well-equipped campground. This place has been a lifesaver many times for me, especially on holiday weekends when all the hotels, motels, and cabins, in Helen Georgia are filled up.
This is a great place if you are looking for a non-commercialized area up in the mountains which offers a nice secluded feel. Cherokee Campground is located approximately 15 minutes outside of Helen, Ga., past Unicoi Park on Hwy. 356.
There are only about 5 tent sites, but they are well shaded, and nestled off on the edge of a wooded area giving the tent sites a nice feel of privacy. Each tent site has a grill, electricity, and water. The majority of the sites are for RV’s.
There is a nice children’s playground that you will see in the video below.
The basic amenities include:
30/50 amp hookups
Laundromat
Playground
Social Hall with cooking area, refrigerator, wide screen TV, table tennis, and checkers
Wireless access
Clean showers with fresh well water
The RV sites have access to cable
There is a nice large park area with basketball court, horseshoes, and picnic table, which is excellent for family activities such as soccer, baseball, or football games.
The showers are always clean here. They have nice rubber mats down so you don’t have to step out of the shower onto a dirty wet floor, and ample privacy space to get dressed. The social hall I’m assuming is always open, I was up there till midnight watching the news, and no one ever came around to lock it up.
