I’m coming up next week with a group of kids from a group I run called Blue Herring Outdoors found on Facebook. There will be 5 young men with a passion for learning about the outdoors and sharing their Christian faith. If anyone knows areas we should check for hiking/fishing please let me know. The plan otherwise is to hit the river running down into Helen from the park area at the north entrance to Helen. Also would you tell us to use Red Worms over Corn? Last year I threw a Panther Martin and caught fish every cast. Thanks and God Bless, Blue

Not on the Chattahoochee River which runs Through Helen Ga., but there are time on Smith Creek up in the Unicoi State Park area that is called delayed harvest, and during delayed harvest in Smith Creek, it’s catch and release.

Yes, you have to have both a State of Georgia Fishing license, as well as a trout stamp. Both can be purchased at Betty’s Country Store

Do I require a license for Fishing?

I have never done fishing in my life but I am excited if if I get a chance here.

Is the gear available for rent or do I bring mine.

Just about the entire river running through Helen Ga. is excellent for trout fishing.

One hot spot in particular is right behind the Riverbend hotel. You can pay $2.00 to park right there, get out, and fish that entire easy to navigate section, relax on the nice bench swings along the riverside, and even grill what you catch right there on the river. good luck.

I just went up a week ago, and caught 24 big rainbow trout in three days. Excellent food.

I’m just looking of a good spot around Helen where i and my two boys and go out and successfully catch some trouts. Keep in mind, I’m not and expert fisherman, but I would like to impress my boys. Please help!
